Changes to gluten-free NHS prescriptions

Currently in Dorset, people with a diagnosis of either coeliac disease or dermatitis herpetiformis can receive an NHS prescription for gluten-free bread or flour mixes (subject to normal NHS prescription charge rules). In line with other health regions in England, NHS Dorset is considering changing this, meaning that people would no longer be able to obtain these items on an NHS prescription. A consultation is currently underway, more information and a survey can be found by following this link>> https://nhsdorset.nhs.uk/health/medicines/helpyournhs/gluten/

The survey closes the 20th of August 2025.

Scam alert when paying for parking

Hopefully most of us will be getting out and about this summer, enjoying some of the fantastic scenery and coastline Dorset has to offer. A warning has been put out regarding paying for parking at Dorset Council car parks. QR code stickers have appeared on several pay and display machines that take people to a legitimate-looking website, where people input their payment details.

The council has confirmed they do not use QR codes for their parking machines, people should use cash/card payments at parking machines or use an authorised app. Anyone who feels they may have entered payment details on a scam website should contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or visit their website: https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

Ordering Repeat Prescriptions? Please only order what you need

Around 50,000 people in Dorset receive repeat GP prescriptions for multiple medications every month. However, it’s estimated that 1.6 million items are wasted each year, in Dorset alone!

This summer, we are joining with GP Practices across Dorset to remind you that you can help prevent medicines waste.

Find out what you can do to save millions in waste, free up healthcare professionals' time, protect the environment and NHS resources on the NHS Dorset website here>>
