Violence Policy

Zero tolerance for abuse and violence

Every member of our practice team is here to help you. We promise to always treat you, your family, and your carers with respect and courtesy. In return, we respectfully ask that you treat our staff and other patients in the same way.

The NHS operates a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding violence and abuse. We will not tolerate any form of aggression at our practice.

What we consider unacceptable behaviour:

  • Verbal abuse: This includes shouting, swearing, using offensive language, or making threats over the phone or in person.
  • Physical aggression: Any threatened or actual physical violence towards our staff, visitors, or other patients.
  • Discriminatory abuse: Any comments, actions, or behavior that target a person's race, gender, disability, age, or beliefs.

What happens if a patient is abusive or violent?

If a person behaves in an aggressive or abusive way on our premises or to our staff over the phone:

  1. Police involvement: We will contact the Police immediately if we feel anyone's safety is at risk.
  2. Removal from our practice: We have the right to remove violent or abusive patients from our list of registered patients.
  3. Written notice: If we have to remove someone from our list, we will notify them in writing and permanently record the circumstances in their medical records.

Thank you for helping us keep Lyme Bay Medical Practice a safe, welcoming, and calm place for everyone.
